"You're probably $200-$300 at a store for a really high quality or a good quality air purifier. The evidence for a do-it-yourself with a high-quality air filter, you're somewhere in the $50-$80 range," the Milwaukee Health Department's Dr. Nick Tomaro told WISN 12 News.
On Tuesday, he showed WISN 12 News an example of a homemade air purifier made out of a box fan, four air filters, cardboard and duct tape.

"If you have closed windows and you have this going on, this can be quite effective at helping you at home," Tomaro said.
Health officials recommend changing the filter every six to nine months.
